Rosalima Gabayaran-Lamey is a Filipino artist who was born in Tapaz, Capiz, Philippines.
She studied art at Kingston and Richmond College before pursuing more rigorous studies at home. Rosalima works with different media such as water colour, acrylic and oil. She draws inspiration from the works of high Renaissance, Baroque and early Impressionist painters.
Before moving to the United Kingdom, Rosalima grew up in the hinterlands of Nayawan until she was seven. She eventually left Nayawan to pursue her studies in Panay’s more populous areas. Yet despite her separation from the Panay Bukidnon community, Rosalima continues to take pride in her community’s rich cultural heritage. Her mother was the tribe’s Binukot or princess while her uncle, Federico Caballero is one of the Philippines last Epic Chanters and was recognised by the Philippine Government as a National Living Treasure.
Rosalima and her husband are happily married with two children. The couple travel extensively and have lived in New York, Paris, Puerto Rico and San Francisco.
Rosalima’s speciality is portraits and still-life paintings done in oil.
She loves the ability to capture fine details and to exploit the lustre and opacity of the medium.

After decades of separation from the Panay Bukidnon community in Capiz, Philippines,
Rosalima revisits the place she used to consider home and the reconnects with the people who have inspired her artwork today.
The Panay Bukidnon is a small community of indigenous people who occupy innermost areas where the provinces of Aklan, Antique, Iloilo and Capiz intersect. Very little is known about this community except for their unique cultural and spiritual practices, among which are the tradition of having a Binukot (kept maiden) and their epic chanting, the Suguidanon.
In her first solo exhibition, Rosalima offers a rare glimpse at the life and times of one of the last remaining indigenous communities in the Visayan hinterlands. Her skilful rendition of the Panay Bukidnon belies the artist’s passion to reconnect with her people for although she has left her home many years ago, she continues to carry the soul of Nayawan and the Panay Bukidnon community in her heart and in her art.
